One of Carl Sagan's most pertinent messages for humanity

"Those worlds in space are as countless as all the grains of sand on all the beaches of the Earth. Each of those worlds is as real as ours. In every on...

You know, every successful life form on this Earth has rules.  Ours suck. And look where it's taken us, after only less than a 100 years of incredible technology?  The crazies, who in history could only damage other members of the human race--------and now making extinct millions of billion year old life forms..We stink!

But!  One thing could save us--and I'm not kidding--like bees have rules in ahive, we need rules for our hive. We need to WEED OUT PREDATORS, TYRANTS, LUNATICS from holding positions of power.  Recently commercial airlines have found TESTING PILOTS FOR PSYCHOLOGICAL HEALTH, weeds them out--few ever fall through the cracks.  So, when will one candidate for public office hold up his test score and say, "Hey, any of you other candidates have one of these?? A clean psychological bill of health?"...  If people who hold power and make decisions about the world were held to account, had qualifications, like pilots--those who cannot cut it, would not be permitted to "fly" above us and destory our world...It IS OUR world...it belongs to all life--and we humans, who pay people, hire employees to represent us--and we have a right to make some demands concerning weeding out power hungry psychopaths from making our laws, creating economic situations, destroying or protecting our fragile environment---Raaaahhh.  My rant.

Yes, independent search for truth. Keep a beginner's mind. What, though, will inspire us to seek "a more sustainable, just and peaceful world"? And aren't there universal truths that we all can agree upon? Like honesty, trustworthiness, generosity, sacrifice and service to the earth and humankind. So far, scientists, business and political leaders, those without any spiritual foundation, have not served the best interests of humanity and the earth. Oh, many have talked God and religion, but not walked the walk. Here at this website I have seen many references to changing yourself as the most important means of changing the world.

When I look at some of the horrendous things that science and technology have done to humankind and the earth, I could come to the conclusion that science and technology are wrong and should be gotten rid of, just as many people have come to the conclusion that religion is wrong and should be gotten rid of. But both have human beings who have through ignorance, selfishness, greed, and the lack of knowledge that comes with change and evolution and growth.

Also, at this site I read many posts and comments about how science is confirming the Oneness, this Consciousness which religion has been revealing for centuries in its own evolving way that is dependent upon the receptivity of those receiving the message, their stage of development. Many of the recipients have often

misinterpreted the message. But with science and our new understanding of the world, there has also been a new understanding of spiritual matters and religion (to bind together that which has been torn apart).

Thank you for your comment, I resonate with your feelings and thoughts. Our evolution towards betterment as human species is a process and progress the we are constantly looking for as ways to find what is the right path to such destination. It is an individual choice in my view as to what suits us best to change ourselves for a more sustainable, just and peaceful world while being coherent with everything around us. As long as one pursues to find such path is the first and very important step to take. Keep looking and keep being! Best wishes, Gyorgyi

Yes, Carl Sagan's message is pertinent and quite spiritual. He's calling us to our higher self. Now how do we reach this higher self? And what is it that keeps us from our higher self? Intelligence alone is not going to get us there; many intelligent people have been kept back. What is there within us that struggles to act in this spiritual way that Mr. Sagan speaks of? Yes, some of it is a lack of knowledge. I believe ignorance is the root of all wrongdoing. But ignorance of what? Many people are full of knowledge regarding the material world, but do they always act in a manner that is congruent with a higher self? There seem to be two natures at war within humans. Maybe the knowledge we lack is the knowledge of our true being. We are spiritual beings--expanded consciousness, whatever you want to name it. This is an ancient knowledge. Our creation. It's tied up in all the myths, symbols, and our very DNA. Science is re-discovering and purifying this ancient knowledge. Religion is still its center.
