Today, right now, there is a huge issue with the worlds water! There simply is not enough fresh water to supply the rapidly growing population. The reasons are complex, but the main thing to understand is that this problem is not going away anytime soon and it looks like its only going to get worse unless we the people make a stand and do something about it.
That is the reason I wrote this song “One Difference,” so I can contribute in a small way towards raising awareness about this situation. I wanted the song to be stripped back and decided to keep it acoustic, which lead to me asking Justin and Marc from the band “Trio” to accompany me on this recording. It actually turned out that I recorded them over at Marc’s house, which happened to be an old water mill, a nice unplanned touch!
Please feel free to share the song with your friends on facebook, myspace, email lists, etc, to help spread the good work of the one organisation.
The Facts:
* Did you know that over 1 billion people do not have access to a clean water supply? Or that 2 million people die every year as a result of water related diseases. And 40 billion work hours a year are lost collecting water in Africa?
* All One water’s profits, every last drop, fund amazing roundabout powered water pumps in Africa called PlayPumps®. As children spin on the roundabout, fresh clean water is pumped from deep underground into a storage tank for use by the entire community. A simple idea that is now changing the lives of thousands of people in Africa. Instead of walking for hours to collect water, children can go to school and the community benefits from a sustainable water supply.
* A PlayPump® provides much more than fresh clean water, it provides a community with a sustainable resource that saves time and energy and facilitates education, hygiene, health and nutrition. Children have the time to go to school and get an education. Excess water is used to irrigate vegetable gardens and the entire community has access to clean, free drinking water.
* One has recently celebrated the milestone of donating £4 million to fund water projects in Africa, giving over 1.2 million people access to a clean, sustainable and safe drinking water source.
