We Have A Lot to Learn From Bugs!

Superbugs Networking for Peaceful Coexistence

According to scientists at the University of Western Ontario, some killer superbugs are finding ways to call a truce with humans. Lead researcher Joaquin Madrenas, head of immunology at Robarts Research Institute says that these bugs have evolved into networks of peaceful coexistence.

Madrenas and colleagues at Western, the University of Calgary and Northwestern University in Chicago studied Staphylococcus aureus, a bug… Continue

There will be the time when we have to reach out and get all those without the internet access...

...and we have to use the mobile technology to send our message to the less developed areas.
Great article published on one of our fellow organization, Changemakers' site.
How mobile phones are used in other parts of the World and how NGOs can make use of them:

Building a Palace for People: Alexandra Palace

Ally Pally 360 sm screen.jpg

My dream is to uncover the full potential of Alexandra Palace. I have been dreaming this fairly solidly for about 20 months and during that time I have been talking to lots of people with far greater skills and experience than I have about how this dream can become reality. I have now built a… Continue

A THOUGHT FOR TODAY:

Words, when written, crystallize history;
their very structure gives permanence
to the unchangeable past.

and statesman (1561-1626)

Marcel, Carl, Did you guys get this?

My fellow WorldShifters,

Earlier Marcel asked us all to send him our Twitter names so he could

compile them and send back to all of us a twitter-list.

Carl, asked why and what for, as he does not use it and does not

understand the need. I responded there on the Marcel's suggestion,

and here is what I was eluding to, it just arrived HOT off the press!

"1300% Increase" on his one-a-day Ervin Laszlo appearance,

here there are 14 for this… Continue

A THOUGHT FOR TODAY:

If you wish to be loved,
show more of your faults than your virtues.

Qualitative Easing

Still looking at the resource based economy, we could be in danger of losing the 'slingshot' effect afforded by the global financial crisis if the bankers remain blind to the technological imperative. I am reminded of the time when Rolls Royce, Britain's most prestigious company had to be rescued in 1971 first by the government and then by the American customer for its aero engines, Lockheed. The root of the problem was the lack of a common language and understanding between bankers and… Continue

A THOUGHT FOR TODAY:

Evil is like a shadow - it has no real substance of its own,
it is simply a lack of light.

You cannot cause a shadow to disappear by trying to fight it,
stamp on it, by railing against it, or any other form of emotional or physical resistance.

In order to cause a shadow to disappear, you must shine light on it.

New roads

Found myself in a very different place last week. Suddenly not working 'just' in the Netherlands but also in Antwerp. Started to work for Truvo [experts in local content & local search] as their Director Content. Before this change I was busy with my business called InCircle. I lost some clients there, partially because of the 'crises'.

Working for Truvo gives me the possibility to reposition InCircle: I will start helping… Continue

This movie communicates all of the issues we are all talking about! They also have set up a network of towns getting prepared for after-oil era. It's a must for every WorldShifters, I believe.

A THOUGHT FOR TODAY:

Words are a mirror of their times.
By looking at the areas in which the vocabulary of a language
is expanding fastest in a given period,
we can form a fairly accurate impression
of the chief preoccupations of society
at that time and the points at which
the boundaries of human endeavor are being advanced.

A THOUGHT FOR TODAY:

If a man would register all his opinions upon love, politics, religion, learning, etc.,
beginning from his youth and so go on to old age,
what a bundle of inconsistencies and contradictions would appear at last!

A THOUGHT FOR TODAY:

The door of a bigoted mind opens outwards so that the only result of the pressure of facts upon it is to close it more snugly.

Hydrogen car to be 'open source'

"The manufacturer of a hydrogen car unveiled in London on Tuesday will make its designs available online so the cars can be built and improved locally. The Riversimple car can go 80km/hr (50mph) and travels 322km (200mi) per re-fuelling, with an efficiency equivalent to 300 miles to the gallon. The cars will be leased with fuel and repair costs included, at an estimated £200 ($315) per month. The company hopes to have the vehicles in production by 2013. Next year, it aims to release 10… Continue

A THOUGHT FOR TODAY:

We all have handicaps.
The difference is that some of us must reveal ours,
while others must conceal theirs,
to be treated with mercy.
