Cyclical vs. linear time

After we have ascertained that linear time is working against us on a number of levels, how do we convince our bosses, service providers, and the myriad people we rely on to make things work (in the most rudimentary sense) that we need to make a shift? Also, as someone who has very mixed feelings about social networks (Does Worldshift2012 qualify as one?) and is partuclarly skeptical about the cybersphere (to which Worldshift2012 certainly belongs) where can we most efficaciously apply…See More

Profile Information

Do you believe we're now in a global emergency?
Absolutely
What does climate change mean to you?
I am just finding out.
What does peace mean to you?
I grew up with peace in the home. I wish to see peace in everyone's home.
What does community mean to you?
Many different things. I am cosmopolitan, born in Budapest. Have lived all over Europe and America, i.e have lived a global life. Ironically I have to find a home in a global community. Though Hungarian by birth, I have been put in a position of being a citizen of the world. Maybe this is a good thing. I have perspective. I can see certain things over a broad horizon. I would like to act locally, though. "Think globally, act locally." I welcome being connected to Worldshift2012 and to my native city of my birth, Budapest.
What does politics mean to you?
I consider myself to be an intellectual. I wrote my doctoral dissertation some thirty years ago on the cosmological views of Diderot and Nietzsche. I see those perspectives reflected in what Worldshift2012 has thusfar brought to fruition. This is in the broadest sense political. There is much to be done and very little time to do it. I admire Mr. Laszlo's determination and optimism in the face of massive challenges. His deep optimism is the antidote to the shallow optimism of the last thirty years in America, which, beginning with the Reagan presidency has been on a steep decline, continuing well into the Obama presidency. I have been disillusioned by this trajectory and pin my hopes on a truly global political movement that sweeps away the decay that is around us. I would paraphrase John Kennedy and say: Ask not what your planet can do for you, ask what you can do for your planet.
What does money mean to you?
Vague question. I use it to pay my bills.
What makes you truly happy?
My kids, the beach, a happy heart, loving relationships, and fighting the good fight.

Hi Joseph

I certainly agree that one-on-one exchanges are much more effective than mass online forums for getting to the heart of an issue. Face-to-face discussions are better still - and can work well with up to a few hundred participants if properly facilitated.

But these approaches are too slow and limited in numbers to deal with the global crisis. We need to reach hundreds of millions within the next couple of decades, and convince them that personal, social and planetary transformation is essential for our survival - and particularly for the survival of our children and grandchildren.

How can we do that? I don't know, except to wait for things to get a lot worse and the message eventually strike home.

I'm frustrated by sites which enable me to read the familiar words of well-known people but do not enable me to become engaged. I'm frustrated by the low level of discussion and trivia on open sites and social networks. Surely there is a middle path somewhere?

I'm also frustrated by the complexity of this WorldShift thing. There are several sites related to Laszlo's WorldShift. And a similar group associated with The Shift Network, in which Barbara Marx Hubbard is a leader. Why this fragmentation?

Let's keep the conversation going, we might get somewhere, or at least air our frustrations!

Best wishes, Malcolm
