What does politics mean to you?
Politics is the American ritual system of theatrics of maintaining and wielding power and semblance of order through rhetoric and media manipulation both publically and privately. Theatrics because rhetoric is scripted, as are outcomes and it's obvious the politicians are merely acting their parts cued by directors out of public eye off-stage. Literally, politics is a show, presented to the public audience to convey the personified state's opinion on issues and affairs which happen independently to the actual show. Politics is the 1950s mayor hanging around at Moe's diner who says to little Jimmy, "You heard about the robbery last night didn't you Jimmy? Boy, what a shame. I hope your parents have taught you not to steal, Jimmy. Not only is it immoral, it's against the law." Publically declared (i.e via media, codified laws, or rhetoric), with personified government (The mayor literally assumes a role as figurehead and embodiment of the city because he supposedly has the authority to represent all the people of the city by right of his having won the election) as a means to keep Jimmy from stealing, etc. This is maintaining and wielding power. There are countless flaws which arise in this system, mostly due to the fact that politics (and media) dramatize, exaggerate or distort the daily life they mirror because the images are crafted by persons in esoteric groups who simply cannot reflect all aspects of life, and indeed, most often exist to corrupt the most popular identifiable images into conveyer belts for corporate interests and not to reflect life as it is. Therefore, the show becomes more and more ridiculous with time, as the writers build upon their own blind pseudo-depictions, and the machine grows ever larger and correlatively more needful of fuel. In my opinion it is long-since past any relevence or authority, indeed, it has been a show all along.
