I'm Systems Director at Events4Change, a core contributor to the 999 It’s Time movement, and webmaster of the WorldShift 2012 Declaration site.

I have a 20 year background in IT project management within UK social enterprises, having studied information systems and management strategy. I have previously held positions as Technical Director at a specialist ISP helping it to attracted £3m of venture funding during the dotcom boom; IT Manager for a large reproductive healthcare charity; and Team Leader providing IT consultancy to SMEs, NGOs, & the public sector. I also co-created the dot coop top-level Internet domain, and authored a £2.6m funding proposal for an innovative community-lead waste reuse scheme.

I'm working at Events4Change with Gareth, Dana, and Giani on the London part of WorldShift Day. I've been involved one way or another in events since the late 1980’s, starting with the UK's longest running one-day event focused on environmental sustainability (Kingston Green Fair). In 1995 I co-created the first cybercafé at Glastonbury Festival powering all ten terminals entirely from solar energy. Currently I co-manage the UK’s premier conscious clubbing event (Luminopolis) and am also an accomplished photographer specialising in live music (Photographicon).

Do you believe we're now in a global emergency?

For me, the reverse question is more pertinent: "What evidence do you see for asserting that there is no global emergency?" My answer: "None". We are now in a state of social, economic and ecological emergency... there is much work to be done!

"Crisis? What crisis?" -- The Sun responding to James Callaghan's statement about The Winter of Discontent

"There is no energy crisis, only a crisis of ignorance." -- R. Buckminster Fuller

"We choose to solve the problems of climate change in this decade and curb our environmental footprint, not because they are easy, but because they are hard, because that goal will serve to organize and measure the best of our energies and skills, because that challenge is one that we are willing to accept, one we are unwilling to postpone, and one which we intend to win, and one which will ensure the future of all mankind." -- John F. Kennedy, 2002 (or so I'd like to think... see paragraph 15 for his 1962 original).

Hydrogen car to be 'open source'

"The manufacturer of a hydrogen car unveiled in London on Tuesday will make its designs available online so the cars can be built and improved locally. The Riversimple car can go 80km/hr (50mph) and travels 322km (200mi) per re-fuelling, with an efficiency equivalent to 300 miles to the gallon. The cars will be leased with fuel and repair costs included, at an estimated £200 ($315) per month. The company hopes to have the vehicles in production by 2013. Next year, it aims to release 10… Continue

Innocentive have the current challenge listed as deadlining on 28 July 2009... please this pass on to anyone you think can solve it...

"The Seeker is looking for a comprehensive report on how renewable energy sources at distribution level change the structure of the power grid and its physical behavior. They're Changing The Guard at Westminster Palace, said Alice

It now looks highly likely that Prime Minister Gordon Brown will be forced out of office within a matter of weeks (if not days). As voting closed tonight on the European and local council elections being held here in the UK (at which Labour are predicated to do badly), news broke that James Purnell has become the third cabinet minister to resign within a week. Unlike his two colleagues though, James has very publicly wielded with… Continue

Speech Hacking The Moon for Climate Change

A few years ago while listening to an archive recording of one of John F. Kennedy's seminal speeches about the first manned mission to the moon, I mused over what he might have said were he president today. This inspired me to craftily alter just a few of his words:

"We choose to solve the problems of climate change in this decade and curb our environmental footprint, not because they are easy, but because they are hard, because that goal will serve to organize and measure the…

The Reith Lectures start Tues 9th June 2009

Hopefully this excellent annual set of BBC radio lectures will be available via the Internet beyond the shores of Blighty... for those of you who don't know about them, they were inaugurated in 1948 by the BBC to mark the historic contribution made to public service broadcasting by Sir John (later Lord) Reith, the corporation's first director-general. Details for the first of this year's lectures as follows:

Michael Sandel, Harvard Professor of Government, delivers four lectures… Continue
