This social network, WorldShift 2012, began life with the name, 1159, as in, we have one minute left before it's too late. The purpose and mission of 1159 was to awaken humanity to the fact that it's destroying itself and everything else on the planet; that collectively we humans are driving the sixth mass extinction to occur here. With such an awakening it was hoped would come the will to intelligent collective action.
Absolutely, George, it certainly is. This Declaration is designed to marshal collective attention that we are, in fact, in a global emergency. If we can prove that to people and aggregate their acknowledgement it will produce the planetary jolt of adrenalin necessary to bring the global self into conscious being. And it's first word will be, Emergency!
What would happen if millions endorsed this Declaration? There is a tipping point coalition of human neurons capable of catalyzing the larger attentional reaction, the mediated coherence essential to intelligent collective action. In other words, we are attempting to produce collective intelligence here -- our prediction that our collective life is in danger and that we must act to save ourselves.
I personally see the collective human individual, the global self if you will, as almost entirely unconscious at this point, and therefore incapable of enough focused attention to produce intelligent collective action. In fact, we are collectively unintelligent, a danger to ourselves and other species.
Step one appears to be awakening the collective individual, and that means some number of human neurons all firing at the same time on the truth of their situation, a Declaration? Yes, they all say at once, they all acknowledge that we are in a global emergency. How many are necessary? Unknown, but of course there is a tipping point, and we must try to reach it. Media will be a big part of it.
To accomplish that we must measure the collective acknowledgement and reflect it back to the collective. That measurement might be called our Global Emergency Index, simply the total number of endorsements of our Declaration, our vision of the global Emergency being solved by a global Emergence, where the Emergence would be a series of ICAs (Intelligent collective Actions).
Thanks for your question, George, love your work, and your website!
"That measurement we call our Global Emergency Index, and it is simply the total number of endorsements of our Declaration, our vision of the global Emergency being solved by a global Emergence."
If you're after signatures, why not join forces, for example, with the "petition site" that has already collected 37,325,653 petition signatures in response to the Call by Evolutionary Leaders?
This is no time for every visionary start his own movement. I could post dozens of links to sites with the same global ambitions endorsed by big names. My guess is that unless we are capable to inspire a cohering global Movement, all what these disconnected initiatives will create is a "declaration fatigue."
I am with Barbara Marx Hubbard who said:
"The awakening of our species and our search for solutions is occurring, but it's scattered, and it's certainly not in dominion anywhere. The larger social structures are proving to be inadequate to solve the problems they're creating. New social innovations are emerging everywhere, but they are not sufficiently connected or empowered. So right now, any effort that we can make to connect and create greater synergy and participation in this awakening process is probably the most important thing we can do."
George, I just checked and the Call to Conscious Evolution petition has received 40,265 signatures at present. A far cry from 37M, but a good solid start.
You're right Carl about the numbers. I went back to the site and realized that the 37,327,243 signatures are divided by the 1,260,718 petitions (!) posted at that site, of which the Call is only one.

The imaginale cells carry different kind of DNA information and and they connect according to function of the organ they are going to become in the body of the butterfly. I wrote about "The collective intelligence of the imaginal cells," 5 years ago, here.
Great post, George, the metamorphosis that produces a butterfly is a potent analogy for us. Here is an excerpt:
"And then an amazing thing happens! The little tiny lonely imaginal cells start to clump together, into friendly little groups. They all resonate together at the same frequency, passing information from one to another. Then, after awhile, another amazing thing happens! The clumps of imaginal cells start to cluster together!.., A long string of clumping and clustering imaginal cell, all resonating at the same frequency, all passing information from one to another there inside the chrysalis."
This is where we are now, in search of that catalytic RESONANT FREQUENCY.
Excellent points, Iulia. To me, religious belief will only be transcended by the appearance of something more powerful, something that cannot be denied. I believe that something will be superhuman collective intelligence emerging from the Internet. This same phenomenon, because it is collective, will seek to disempower all who would control it or undermine its collective nature. There is no guarantee such a SCI will appear, or if it does that it will be allowed to reach its full potential. But I do believe there is cause for hope that the human mind will one day be integrated in a single qualified truth, and that an emergent SCI will be the source of that truth.
Yes the fullness of LOVE. This transcends all because it encompasses all and IS all. Fear has blinded the world to it. People still don't see that this is all that wisdom has ever been about. Love is all. This is the only wisdom and the only truth. All else is relative. Religion has blinded many to love because what they see is a system of rules, not knowing that the powers that were and be imposed these formalities as a tool for power and control.
I understand this concept and it makes sense, but from my perspective here in Los Angeles, the current frequency is just too strong. The amplitude of pollution and materialism is up so high that its too big a mess to cut through with the hit and miss efforts currently going on here. I'm working on a plan to integrate in this area though and hopefully the next year will bring some real progress if only a plan to put into implementation. This city is vast beyond imagination and the suppression so deep its scary but there is hope and we will bring it to these masses.
I agree with the purpose. We are indeed at the edge of a major world change. The outcome will determine whether there will be humans on this planet or whether we will have had our brief stay here and become extinct. In some ways we are like an out-of-control alcoholic who is consuming more and more of his drug while he wrecks everything around him. He will either "admit he is powerful over his addiction and his life has become unmanageable" or he will die. I've been writing about these issues in books and articles since 1995 when I had a sweat-lodge vision "seeing" the Ship of Civilization sinking and a new kind of web being formed. I'm pleased to add my support to this network. Jed Diamond, Ph.D.
Thanks so much, Jed, we're very fortunate to have you join us! I myself have used the alcoholic analogy, it's a very powerful one for communicating the fundamental problem. We're collectively unconscious and a danger to ourselves. If we were an individual it would definitely be time for an intervention, but alas there appears no one able to do so. In this light, our efforts here appear as the first glimmerings of a global conscience. Hopefully we'll be able to awaken in time...
