Supporting movements towards real democracy and remembering what we already have

There are no quick fire solutions to be rolled out here because this is one thing that effects every individual on the planet but within this problem lies the solution. It is a problem we all share. So therefore we have our common purpose to unite us sitting on our nose.

It may seem a vast thing to tackle but the reason that it seems so vast to each of us is because we each have been made to feel very small. We have all been brought up in a society ruled by money not people so therefore, we don't think to look for happiness within ourselves or with each other. Also, the responsibility of each person to support the community has been taken instead by a political system that is largely useless at tackling problems in our communities. But we continue to look to them not each other for support.

What is needed is a redirection of focus. Real democracy means people led decision making. This is something we can already do, we don’t need permission. We just need a groundswell of people to tip this message into society at large in order to activate people to stop looking out and complaining and start looking in and connecting up. The beauty of this is that increasingly, we are all becoming aware of the lack of control we have over our lives and it effects everyone. So, this is something that everyone can stand alongside. We the people are it, frankly, we already run the show, we just don’t see it that way.

There is a solutions focussed picnic in Hampstead Heath on August 15th. On Parliament Hill. Designed to connect people. We want to make it as big as possible so if you want to help to promote this, please get in touch for more info.

Real democracy needs to be extended with economic democracy.. A most fundamental right is still conditional on economic servitude to others to earn the right to the means of life (money in capitalist societies).

The basic income movement is campaigning for an unconditional income, modest, but sufficient for a healthful life style.
Why? Because the credit (money) of a community belongs to the community. And as society becomes richer through technological and scientific advance everyone will have to work less and have more time to carry out their civic duty to engage in people centered politics.
I completely agree, quite how it will come about is anyone's guess but we have to change the dream from achieving individual financial success into building communities together. We have to stop blaming the mechanisms of power and stop feeling powerless to change things ourselves. We are everything. I believe in a real definition of success being how much you enable others to have rather than how much you enable yourself to have.

I don't think we will use money in quite the same way either, I think trade for trade or trade for time will take over and we will start to operate on much smaller networks of resource sharing.

Our most vital tools in the next few years will be strong communities, as much energy for doing as we can all muster and patience as we learn new ways of interacting. Oh, and maybe a big ship. :)
Act and communicate. It's so important that people see how to make a difference. This works and it gives me and others a lot of joy. People asking how come your'e so happy? Because life's great. But don't you see all the problems? Yes I do just like you . And there are things I can't do anything about directly, but a lot of the problems are caused by what I do indirectly. Like what? Like putting petrol in my car. So you don't do that anymore? I couldn't do without. Well sometimes on long drives I take the train, real nice talking the other day. And I don't say you need to leave your car. If you love it, keep it but at least start sharing your car with others.
Just try for ten days doing things for others, paying attention to the needs of others. Just little things, keep a door open. See the beauty of something and share it. Find things that irritate people in the office like a broken knob on a drawer and fix it when nobody's there. Watch silently the next day how it makes someone happy. Do not take credit but give your smile to someone else. What also really works is to do some cleaning. Throwing away stuff (and not buying new) space can be such a relief.
