Event Description

This is a free workshop & community building tool that will help you learn to work with others to help each other build an underground shelter as you form a community based on mutual and global survival.

There will be a registry to help you connect with others in your area. Also a brief intro in forming a survival group/community (SGC) along with info papers for yourself and your group that will help you successfully organize, engage in and create a sustainable SCG.

The SID Project will also have Free Survival Workshops: basic and advance survival skills, which include learning how to build shelters indigenously, making primitive tools, finding foods and herbal medicines, healing sweat hut rites, woods first aid, building fires.

Other then building the SID and forming a survival group/community, the additional classes will be taught based on the interest of the participating individuals.

All of the above is offered free of charge as part of this project.

When:
This project will happen on the last or second to last week of each month (Monday through Sunday). The first one this year is May 21 to May 27

Housing:
For those of you coming a long distance:
There will be free camping as well as limited space in the main house.

Food:
We ask participants to bring food to share. We also encourage gift giving as we are promoting gift economics.

Where:
Hardwick VT exact location will be given when you are registered as a participant.

The Land and Organization:
The lands that these first SIDs are being built on as community projects may become part of a school and international organization being organized and created to help us survive this time of transition.

It is currently a project of the Tree of Life Collective.

Meaning of the word “SID”

S = Subterranean: Underground & in this case invisible from above ground.

I = Indigenous: It is made of free or cheap materials you find around you.

D = Domicile: These structures are livable shelters designed to survive almost any man-made or natural disaster.

You can also free of charge download the basic design here:

https://sites.google.com/site/2016lifegroups/downloads/SimpleSID.pdf?attredirects=0&d=1

It has everything you need to know how to build one, except it is missing the ventilation system. It was left out by accident because the paper was rushed after there was an attempt to stop this info from getting out. The next edition as well as a video being made will be complete...

Additional classes will also be dropped and the focus will be on the SID and community building.

In the daytime we will have hands on building workshops and learn the technology involved in making these SIDs and at night we will have a "pot luck teach in" on building survival groups/communities.

If you want to learn wilderness skills I can do that separately in July.

I change the date and limited it to only two days. It is now only June 16th and 17th. If this is an inconvenience or you were planning on coming earlier or on the Monday of that week contact me and I'll change it. Most people are only interested in the weekend and teaching takes away from working. Also with fewer days attendance thus the possibility of networking will be better. If anyone disagrees either post it here or contact me, everything and anything can change...

SID Update:

I'm going to postpone this event and combine it with the June event.
There has been a lack of interest and honestly I have not really promoted it much. Also when I'm teaching it takes away from building and I'd like to get this to where people can really understand its value and the best way to do that is to have it mostly done. Yes there will still be plenty to do and lots of hands on learning all the same in this way the results can be seen and the potential understood. I should have a lot of the work done by the June SID Project event so then I can focus on teaching.

These SIDs are the best free or cheap survival shelters that can have lots of multiuse while not being used as a shelter and will be there to protect you and your family when need be.
This one in Hardwick Vt. is a hybrid between indigenous and conventional building and its main use will be as a root cellar.

So I urge you to come & invite your friends and family. In this time of transition, In a very real way this knowledge can contribute to the survival of our species and can be designed to help other species as well.

It will now be June 14 to the 18th starting on Thursday and going until Monday.

SID Project Update May 9, 2012

Right now we are fixing up winter's damage on this 10' deep x 15' in diameter hole with its 100' tunnel and getting it ready for the May 21 to May 27th event.

There will be something different each day of this first of 2012 SID workshops:

Masonry; creating heat efficient low polluting channeled fireplace.
Indigenous Carpentry; constructing a high PSI timber frame.
Survival Logging; using a hand ax, why it's best in the long run and sustainable forestry.
Plumbing; digging a multiuse drainage system.

Some other things will be; bark stripping and preparing the wood, moving heavy trees and walking stones, water proofing and rodent control. There will be flexibility as to what will be done when.

Additional Classes on request will be:

Herbalism

Foraging

Wild Crafting

Woods First Aid

Build Indigenous Structures

Finding Water

Making Primitive Tools & Weapons

Fire Making

And last but not least:

There will be three nights on how to start a Survival Group/Community.

All of the above is free of charge we just request that you bring food to share...
